چکیده

For decades archaeologists have struggled with the problem of accurately determining organic and mineral-based paints in pottery from the American Southwest. Using Laser Ablation-Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS), we have developed a simple and cost-effective method that permits classification of painted surfaces into mineral and organicbased categories. By applying this method to Mesa Verde and Mancos Black-on-white pottery from the Mesa Verde Region, we were able to distinguish easily between mineral and organic-based paints. Preliminary data also suggest that multiple subgroups of mineral-based paints exist within these ceramic types, indicating that multiple recipes for manufacturing paint may have been employed by prehistoric potters from this region.

Spatial distribution of uranium in mice kidneys detected by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry

The aim of the study is to better understand where uranium deposits in mice kidneys. The spatial distribution of uranium was examined in the kidneys of C57BL/6 mice using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Mice were exposed to varying levels of uranyl nitrate in their drinking water. Calibration standards were developed to allow for semi-quantitative measur...

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS): comparison of different internal standardization methods using laser-induced plasma (LIP) emission and LA-ICP-MS signals.

The source of signal variations that governs the analytical performance of laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) was investigated in this study. In order to specify the source of signal variations of LA-ICP-MS, laser-induced plasma (LIP) Fe emission, LA-ICP-MS Fe+ and LA-ICP-MS Ni+ signals were used as internal standards for the determination of trace elements ...

Determination of phosphorus and metals in human brain proteins after isolation by gel electrophoresis by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma source mass spectrometry

Phosphorus, sulfur, silicon and metal concentrations (Al, Cu and Zn) were determined in human brain proteins by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) after separation of protein mixtures by two dimensional (2-D) gel electrophoresis. The analysis of phosphorus, silicon and metals in single protein spots in the gel was performed with an optimized microanalytical ...

Imaging mass spectrometry in biological tissues by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.

Of all the inorganic mass spectrometric techniques, laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) plays a key role as a powerful and sensitive microanalytical technique enabling multi- element trace analysis and isotope ratio measurements at trace and ultratrace level. LA-ICP-MS was used to produce images of detailed regionally-specific element distribution in 20 micro...

Enhancing Laser Ablation ICP-MS using Sector Field Technology

• Multi-Element Analysis Introduction Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) has developed over recent years to become a sophisticated tool for the multielemental and isotope ratio analysis of solid samples. Besides a true multi-elemental capability, independent of matrix, the major requirements for most geological laser applications in ICP-MS are the highest se...
